This Saturday, November 21st, is the Candle Light Turkey Vigil from 5pm to 6pm at the Horse Fountain on the Plaza off of 47th Street and Broadway.
This vigil for the turkeys is a way of speaking out against the slaughter of these awesome creatures for this bloody holiday called Thanksgiving. I do have a turkey outfit for whomever wants to wear it, and we will be handing out flyers and holding candles. If you have candles, please bring them.
Millions of turkeys are killed every year for Thanksgiving, but we can have a cruelty free holiday — it can be done. Meanwhile, turkeys go through a very painful experience of having their toes and beaks cut off with no pain killers, and are stunned so they can’t move. Then their heads are cut off by a spinning blade while they are totally awake.
There is time to still sponsor a turkey at www.adoptaturkey.org, a program through farm sanctuary.
Hope you all can make to the vigil. It’s only for an hour. I thought maybe we all could go to Eden Alley or the Seed Cafe after the vigil.
